Nie mogę ustawić większej rozdziałki niż 640x480, a chciałbym 1440x900.

W internecie znalazłem coś takiego: In the place where you specify your computer monitor model, make sure you check the wide screen monitor check box.
Once checked, you should find the correct resolution in the drop-down list. Może to pomoże.

A jak nie to sam musisz szukać dalej albo poczekać aż ktoś mądrzejszy się odezwie.

2. nvidia-xconfig trzeba odpalać z uprawnieniami roota.

Nie wiem czy to coś zmieni, ale wpisz w konsoli z poziomu roota (usunie ci też logo NV przy starcie) nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals --depth=24 --no-logo --mode=1440x900
